2012 Gold Tours to Big Nugget Mine in Porcupine Creek will start June 1st!

Rainbow Glacier Adventures has exclusive access to give tours to one of the most famous gold mines in America right now!  Yep, that's right, The Schnabel's Big Nugget Mine at Porcupine Creek in Haines Alaska!

Grandpa John & his grandson will be searching for the yellow..
pay dirt again this summer.  I can't wait to see how much gold the Schnabel Family will find this coming season.  It has been fun watching last season on TV.
We took Gold Mine Tours out to Big Nugget Mine last year, where our fascinated guests got to see first hand what it is really like at the Schnabel's Gold Mine on Porcupine Creek.

Travel Writer Roy Stevenson came on the tour with his wife, Linda.  He wrote a great article on Haines and told about how our Gold Rush to Porcupine Creek Tour was a highlight of his Haines visit.  He even mentions me!  It is going to be published in a magazine called Lost Treasure later this year.  You can get a sneak peak at the link below.
Reader be warned....you may want to move here after reading this article.

If you get to come to or through Haines Alaska this summer remember to go to Tourhaines.com and book the "Gold Rush to Porcupine Creek Tour" with Rainbow Glacier Adventures.

Rainbow Glacier Adventures is not selling the exclusive Gold Rush to Porcupine Creek Tour on the Cruise Ships.  If you are taking a Southeast Alaska Cruise this summer and you are porting in Skagway or Haines then you want to book on line at tourhaines.com or call 907-766-3580 to make reservations.

I am looking forward to guiding the Gold Rush to Porcupine Tour at Big Nugget Mine again.  Hopefully the Schnabel's hit the Mother Lode this summer!

Summer will be here before we know it.  I try to remember this as we continue to survive our record breaking snowfall of a winter.

    2. Thank you Holly Jo for the best tour of our Alaska, June 2012, family trip! Our time with Parker, the gold we found panning and especially your personal care of us, was the very best experience we had in all tours we made during our trip. The beauty and unspoiled area of Haines was also a refreshing contrast to the other areas so full of retail tourist attractions. We hope to visit Haines again to take time to see all of it's beauty. Please give our sincere thanks to Parker and Mr. John for allowing us to visit their mine and to Parker for the time he allowed us to spend with him.

  6. Just saw the tour mentioned on the Show......I caught a look at a "wooden sign" with something about RV sites on it? Since we are planning an RV adventure, hopefully next year.....whats the scoop on that? Love the show and would Love to get the tour. Thanks

    1. Good eye - At one time (approx. 8 years ago) John had an RV camp site and a golf course in the works, as well as a tour. But it never gained momentum....too far off the beaten path and they didn't have a Natl. TV show advertising it's whereabouts. Maybe if he tried it again now days it would not be overlooked travelers.

  7. Could you tell me...how Grandpa John Schnabel is doing
after another surgery in hospital? I watched the final
show Dec. 14th and Parker talked to his Grandpa and he
told Parker he has to go in for a another surgery. I
PRAY that Grandpa is done with his surgery and he's
feeling o.k. I know Parker would be "heartbroken" if his
Grandpa isn't there with him on next season of Gold Rush.
Please....email me back..I really don't want to wait until
next season to find out about Grandpa John Schnabel.

    1. I am sure you know by now he is doing better. I just visited with him yesterday and he had great color to his cheeks and a big smile on his face. He is looking forward to turning 93 on Monday the 11th. If you want to send him a Birthday card he would LOVE it. John Schnabel PO BOX 149 Haines, AK 99827. He is having a big birthday bash and I am invited. I will blog about it afterward. Thank you for caring!

  8. My Husband and I, my daughter and son-in-law, and a couple we met on the cruise ship took this tour in August of 2012. It was definately the highlight of our Alaska Cruise in my opinion. A good time was had by all and the "uncomfortable" picture Holly Jo took and sent to us is the only family picture I have displayed at work. The students in my class ask about it all the time and we have had some great discussions about the Big Nugget Mine and Alaska. We were most excited to see that the tour and Holly Jo are featured on "Gold Rush: The Dirt-Mining Studs" episode that aired in December 2012.

    1. LOL LOL you make me laugh - Dirt-Mining Studs....lol I love it. It was a funny little 2 minute spot wasn't? Well at least I am only "A little bit crazy" hee hee hee.
I am so glad you displayed that card. Now you need to start using SOC too, when you send people greeting cards. It is fun, easy on the pocket book, simple to make and Gorgeous quality. Don't ya think?

  9. I enjoy the show, due to the fact my dad and John were freinds, and I went to school with Roger. We had a homestead up behind Chilkoot lake in the 60's and 70's. Except for the hotels, the town hasn't changed much; still looks like home.

    1. That is super cool Al. I have heard of your place. I am a "newbie" around here (2008) and have not been exploring back in their yet, but I would love to check out your place and see if it is still there. So far, I can't even find the road that leads to your place. Do you think you will move back someday?

  10. are there any jobs available in haines alaska? i live in california and really want to live in alaska!!

    1. I am sure there are if you are not picky and don't mind working for minimum wage. But it is pretty meager right now. In the summer there are lots of jobs. Tour guiding, river rafting type jobs. People with CDLs can get jobs pretty easily. Good Luck!
